Rebuilding a bathroom with the drains where they are usually needs no permit. Adding a new bathroom, or moving drains and vents, needs a City of Hamilton building permit, since Waterdown is part of Hamilton. We apply and book the plumbing inspections.
Ensuites from the last twenty years often have a deck tub, a fibreglass or tiled corner shower and builder tile. The room is usually big enough for a far better layout without moving walls.
Bathrooms in the old village can be small, with older drains and little insulation on outside walls. We open the walls, update what is behind them and plan storage carefully.
On a septic system, adding a bathroom starts with checking the system can handle it. Homes on a well often have hard water, so we suggest coated glass and fixtures that are easy to descale.
Yes. We have rebuilt an ensuite in Waterdown and work across the village core, Waterdown North, South and East, Carlisle and rural Flamborough from our Burlington office.
Ensuites usually sit in the upper part of our bathroom range, before HST, because they tend to have a glass shower, a freestanding tub and a double vanity. Keeping the drains where they are and choosing a smaller shower brings the number down. The estimator above gives you a range, and the fixed quote follows a visit.
If it is the only tub in the house, keep one somewhere, for resale and for young kids. In an ensuite, many people swap the deck tub for a freestanding tub or a bigger shower.
Not to rebuild it with the drains in place. A new bathroom, or moving drains and vents, needs a City of Hamilton permit, and we handle the application and inspections.
Every shower gets a Schluter waterproofing membrane on the walls and floor, with the seams and corners sealed before tile. The glass is measured after the tile is finished so it fits properly.
About two to three weeks on site for an ensuite, after a week of design and choosing finishes.
Not the one we are working on. Most Waterdown homes have a second bathroom, and we plan the noisy work so the rest of the house stays usable.
