About this project
In the during photos, the lower walls of this basement are open to the studs and the floor is bare concrete, with the built-in bookcases and a wood-wrapped post still in place. The finished room has wide light oak-look plank flooring, and the half wall by the post is now clad in dark vertical slats with a white top. The post and beam are wrapped in the same dark finish. A fireplace with a white mantel and black insert sits at the far end, and white bookcases with glass doors line one wall. The stair has oak-look treads, white risers and a white wall-mounted handrail.
Dark slats on the half wall turn the post into a feature and help separate the sitting area from the rest of the room. Wide planks with fewer seams suit a long basement room.
